Mothers' circle · PUUR Gedragen

A mothers' circle for the time after birth

Whether your baby is a few weeks old or your child is already a few years old, everyone asks how your child is doing. The question of how you are doing comes up less often.

In the PUUR Gedragen circle you meet other mothers every other Wednesday morning, at MIKA yoga & coffee in Bilthoven, close to Utrecht. You walk in with your baby, get a coffee and say what there is to say.

Wednesday 10.00 to 11.30 · MIKA, Emmaplein 20 in Bilthoven · single circle € 35

Next circle: Wednesday, 21 October 2026, Your body

Matrescence

There is a word for what is happening to you

Matrescence is the transition from woman to mother. The anthropologist Dana Raphael gave it a name in the 1970s. The psychologist Aurélie Athan describes matrescence as a healthy developmental phase, comparable to adolescence.

This transition touches almost everything at once: your body, your sleep, your relationship, your work and how you see yourself. A teenager gets years for it. You go through it while feeding every few hours and sleeping little.

In many cultures a woman is surrounded with care and shared knowledge for weeks to months after birth. In the Netherlands, maternity care stops after about eight days. The mothers' circle gives you a place to go through this phase together, with women who are in the middle of it.

How a morning goes

Coffee, a theme and room to share

Walking in

At 10.00 you walk into MIKA, with your baby in a carrier, in the pram or on your lap. There are blankets on the floor and the coffee is ready.

One theme

Each morning centres on one of the six themes, with a question to reflect on. The themes stand on their own, so you can join any morning.

Your body along

A short body-based exercise helps you land and notice what is happening in your body.

Sharing and listening

You say what you want to say, the long version too. The group listens without judgement and without quick reassurance. You decide how much you share.

The six themes

Six mornings, six themes

The circle runs as a series of six mornings. Come to the morning that speaks to you, or join the whole series.

Experiences

What mothers write about the circle

★★★★★

Lonnekevia Hipsy

★★★★★

Hele fijne uitnodigingende cirkel. Fijne oefeningen om terug te gaan naar de geboorte en er met een passende afstand bij te zijn. Open en veilige cirkel om ervaringen in te kunnen delen. Het geeft weer wat ruimte, verbinding en het helpt om te verwerken.

What is matrescence?

Can my baby come along?

Yes, your baby is welcome at every circle. Feeding, changing or walking around is fine at any moment.
